Management Development Programme

The Management Development Programmes (MDP) have been designed to provide aspirant managers and first-line managers with the opportunity to acquire a background in the core functional areas of management together with the skills necessary to advance into a middle management career and to graduate studies in Management or Finance.

The MDPs provide a unique opportunity for a diverse range of employees to develop their managerial potential, first by completing the requirements of the MDP and/or Senior MDP and then by transferring some credits to the Advanced Diploma in Management (ADM).

The MDP has been designed for:

  • Experienced first-line managers
  • Junior professionals and persons in technical and administrative positions

The MDP curriculum recognises that many students need intensive support to develop a range of professional communication and academic skills to succeed at the workplace and in further academic study. The foundation modules of the MDP are Management Skills Development and Introduction to Information Systems and introductory modules in Management and Finance.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

You can start studying this course in the next intake
if you have a:

  • Matriculation certificate PLUS at least five years appropriate full-time work experience.
  • Applicants who have not passed matric may enter the MDP by complying with the University’s Recognition of Prior Learning process. Contact the School or the Division for Lifelong Learning (DLL) for further details.

  • The programme consists has 4 modules that are all compulsory for programme completion.
    The modules as they are presented are:

  • Management Skills Development
    Learn the essential skills to understand, analyse, communicate and plan for challenges that managers face every day.

  • Principles of Management and Business            
    Understand the business as a system and learn key concepts that outline the relationships between different areas of a business.

  • Business Finance
    Learn the essential concepts in business finance and be able to analyse and interpret financial data relevant to a manager.

  • Introduction to Information Systems
    Learn to use information systems to enhance personal productivity and as a tool and to assist in organisational decision-making and problem-solving.
